What do the values BCM, SMM, ECW, TBW, water balance mean?List element No. 2BCM = Body Cell Mass The Body Cell Mass includes all active body cells. This concerns the skeletal musculature and also the cells of the organs. SMM = skeletal muscle mass: the skeletal muscle mass includes those muscles that are mainly responsible for the active body movements (especially in arms and legs), ECW = extracellular water ECW: The extracellular water includes the non-cellular bound water content in the body. The cells store most of the body water intracellularly, while the extracellular fraction is slightly lower in healthy ones (about 40-48% of total body water (TBW).) An increase in the extracellular water content must always be observed with care.

What do the raw data Rz, Xc and the phase angle (PA) mean?Rz = ohmic resistance in the AC field. Rz depends on the following parameters: Length of the body: the longer the measuring distance through the body, the higher the Rz. Therefore, the body size must be entered into the calculation software. Diameter of the musculature: The Messtrom passes only the well durchblutete muscle tissue. The larger the muscle diameter, the lower the Rz. Body fat, on the other hand, acts like an insulator and conducts the power very badly. With BIA you can therefore not "measure" the body fat, but only calculate. Conductivity of the tissue: the percentage of extracellular water significantly changes the conductivity of tissue. In addition, in individual cases (eg kidney failure), the salt content in the tissue can influence the resistance. The BIA calculation formulas must therefore take into account the current hydration conditions in the tissue.

How are nomograms interpreted?List element No. 3Nomograms are to be understood as distribution percentiles of BIA raw data Rz and Xc in a given population. BodyComposition can draw on more than 270 000 measurement data, from which specific nomograms are created according to age, gender, body size and fat content, which are stored according to the current subject. The nomograms in BodyComposition are displayed as a representation of the standard value distribution of Rz / H and Xc / H (H = size in meters). Nomograms can be used to assess the state of hydration and the muscles. In the nomograms in BodyComposition, the measurement of the right half of the body is used for the assessment.
